Problem Blitz

The Problem Blitz (or Problem Event) is a focused, short-term project to resolve problems. The most common targets for Problem events are:

  • Busy areas with 'No time to solve problems'
  • Areas with significant problems but no one trained, or taking the lead, in problem solving
  • Under performing areas, with many little problems (Death by a thousand cuts)

The Problem Blitz is made up of two parts. Training on how to problem solve followed by actually working on real problems. This will result in you making substantial progress on the most pressing or costly problems in a product line or area.

Companies often find that the most effective solutions come from their own employees. The experience of their teams, and the creativity of the people doing the job every day, often goes untapped. By using the collective intelligence and creativity of their work teams, they become more efficient at finding the root of problems and developing solutions.

Blitz' Energize People
Tap into the creativity and energy of people from various functions within your company that are most affected by problems and most knowledgeable about operations associated with the problem. Blitz participants typically are Team leaders, group leaders, from operations, quality, engineering and maintenance.

Overview: In small teams of 2-3, participants will work through several existing problems.

Deliverable: By the end of the class, each team will have thoroughly worked three problems. Each team member will present their problem to the group multiple times and will understand how to investigate and present a problem. The class and management is expected to question and offer suggestions during problem presentations.

We can't promise all problems will be solved, but significant progress will happen.

Duration: Two to three days of 6 hours, plus post class coaching.

Method: Lecture combined with Go and See investigation of current, active problems.

Composition:

    1. In class lecture
    2. Approximately 45% of the class will be spent in Go and See investigation (investigating the problem where it occurs) of problems in small teams.
    3. Problems are presented and reviewed by the class and invited members of management.
Materials: An instruction manual detailing how to problem solve and how to use the software is given to each participant.
